Phenomenal success for Bulgarian wines

Twenty nine medalshave been won in Bulgaria by the “Domaine Boyar” and “Korten” wineries in just 3 months! The awards were presented at five of the most prestigious wine contests: “Vinalies Internationales” (Paris, France), “Mundus Vini” (Düsseldorf, Germany), “Concours Mondial de Bruxelles” (Belgium), “Decanter” (London, England)and“Le Mondial du Rose” (Cannes, France).

Twenty nine out of forty samples, submitted by the two wineries to the five international contests, have been distinguished - by 8 gold, 17 silver, and 4 bronze medals. „On the average, this is over 70% success ratio. Our success ratio reached 100 % at Decanter in London – all the six samples that we’d submitted got a medalthere”, Evgeni Haramliyski, Managing Director of Domaine Boyar, explains.

This year, too, the company secured over 30 %of the awards for Bulgaria.

There is not any other wine maker in Bulgaria with a similar contribution to the positive image of the Bulgarian wine abroad. „Bulgaria has great traditions in the production of wine. Today the country makes extremely competitive wines of outstanding quality. The number of awards that our wines gain is a good proof to that. The distinction those wines receive from international contests help our country be re-discovered on the global scene as a “modern wine destination”, and that is of huge significance to the growth of the whole wine industry”,Mr. Evgeni Haramlijski concludes.

The wines of“Domaine Boyar” and “Korten” to have won the highest number of awards in the 5 international contests are:Domaine BoyarChardonnay,Quantum Sauvignon Blanc, Elements Sauvignon Blanc, Boutique Collection Merlot&Malbec),  Korten Wines Syrah, Korten Wines Cabernet Sauvignon, Korten Rose Syrahand Korten Natura Mavrud&Rubin.

This year, again, the wines of the “Korten” boutique winery impressed the world wine elite and got 11 awards, of which 3 Grand Gold, 6 Silverand 2 Bronze medals. Over the last 5 years, Korten, the wineryrenowned for its quality red wines, has won 26 awards – a fact that earned its well-deserved nickname “the golden winery of Bulgaria”.

All the wines in the Korten portfolio have been presented with topawards.

The wine which could be singled out this year and which gained two Grand Gold Medals by two of the large international contests is Korten Natura Mavrud&Rubin – a blend (coupage) of two Bulgarian varieties, Mavroud andRoubin. That wine has won three “golds” over the two consecutive years of its production. “Local varieties being awarded by international industry experts is a very positive trend. It means that the key global markets are open to local, authentic Bulgarian varieties. It also contributes to creating a clearer identity of the Bulgarian wines on the world’s wine map and a more sustainable future for the wine business in Bulgaria”, explains Mr. Evgeni Haramlijski.

The “Domaine Boyar” and “Korten” success is due mostly to a talented team of oenologists - KapkaGeorgieva, Dimitar Panov, Rossen Georgiev, and Doitchin Andreev. The team made the first Bulgarian top wines, “Solitaire”, as far back as the year of 2004! Nowadays that team continues to work under the global standards. „Wine is not made, it is created by an unyielding and passionate focus on quality and attention to each detail”, “Domaine Boyar” enologists claim.

Each year “Domaine Boyar” and “Korten” take part in the largest and the most renowned world wine contests, where samples from across the globe are being entered into, and each year the wines of the two wineries gain the highest number of medals for Bulgaria. Over the last 10 years, the wines of “Domaine Boyar” have won for Bulgaria over 200awards.
